SHAAL, BALOCHISTAN: The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for a series of targeted killings in the Kalat district of Balochistan, according to statements issued by its spokesperson Azad Baloch, who said the actions were part of an ongoing campaign against individuals involved in collaborating with Pakistani forces.
In its latest statement dated April 2, the BLA said its fighters carried out an attack in the Neemargh area of Kalat and killed Rahim Sasoli. According to BLA statement he was the head of a local “death squad” operating with the backing of Pakistani army and intelligence agencies.
The BLA stated that Sasoli was targeted while at a tube well in his fields and was killed along with one of his guards, Zafarullah, while another guard, Ikramullah, was seriously injured.
The group further said that Sasoli was involved in arrests and killings of Baloch activists.
The BLA also said the killing was part of a broader campaign it refers to as “Operation Gobat” or “Goyt,” in Balochi language, which they described as targeting informants and facilitators working for the state.
In separate statements, the group reiterated its claim of responsibility for the killing of Jumma Bangulzai on March 26, maintaining that he had provided intelligence leading to the arrest of Baloch fighters.
The BLA also accepted responsibility for killing of Mazari Bangalzai on the night of April 2, whom it said was involved in surveillance and enforced disappearances.
In both cases, the BLA claimed the individuals had confessed to their activities prior to being killed.
The group said it had been tracking those it accuses of acting as informants and warned that others it believes to be collaborating with Pakistani authorities would face similar consequences if they did not cease such activities.
It also stated that the campaign would continue as part of its broader insurgency until the independence of Balochistan is achieved.
