BYC Says 19-Year-Old Student Missing in Kalat in Alleged Forced Disappearance

A 19-year-old student from Kalat district, Balochistan, has been missing since March 29, according to the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), which alleges that an armed group it calls a “death squad” was responsible.

Laiba Sattar, daughter of Abdul Sattar, is an FSc student. The BYC said she disappeared at about 9 p.m. The term “death squad” is used by Baloch rights groups and activists for armed groups they accuse of operating with state backing or protection and targeting civilians and activists. These allegations have not been independently verified.

Her case comes amid reports of other women and girls being detained or disappearing in Balochistan. In July, three women from one family—Rafia Bibi, Tania and Javeria—were reportedly detained at the Lak Pass checkpoint while travelling from Kalat to Quetta. They returned home on August 6, after being missing for a week.

On August 19, two women and two children from another family were reportedly detained during a raid by Frontier Corps (FC) and Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) personnel in Quetta’s Gashkori Town. They were identified as Umaira, 27, Najma, 28, eight-year-old Parisa and one-and-a-half-year-old Zakir.

The Baloch Women Forum condemned the reported detention, saying the family had been denied contact with relatives and calling for their immediate and safe recovery.

The BYC reported 507 alleged enforced disappearances across Balochistan between January and June 2026, including 16 involving women. The Human Rights Council of Balochistan said it documented 87 alleged disappearances in August, including eight women and 17 teenagers. It attributed most of the cases to state institutions, particularly the Frontier Corps.
