BNP calls for protests following detention of Sardar Naseer Musiani and his sons in Zehri Operation

The Balochistan National Party (BNP) has announced plans to hold protests across Balochistan in response to the detention of senior party leader Sardar Naseer Ahmed Musiani and his sons by Pakistani forces during an operation in Zehri, Khuzdar district. The BNP described the action as an assault on democratic politics and called for immediate action against such measures.

BNP Central Senior Vice President Sajid Tareen Advocate addressed a press conference at the Quetta Press Club alongside senior party leaders. He strongly condemned the raid on Sardar Naseer Ahmed Musiani’s residence, who is a member of the party’s Central Executive Committee and the chief of the Musiani tribe.

Tareen explained that the raid followed an armed clash between Baloch fighters and Pakistani forces in the Bulbul area of Zehri. He stated that security personnel arrived in 10 to 12 vehicles at Sardar Naseer’s home and detained him along with his sons, Mir Zheri Khan Musiani and Mir Khaleel Ahmed Musiani, as well as several other family members.

He added that the detainees were taken to a school at Bulbul Cross, where tribal elders and residents, who had gathered to protest, were also held. Women from the area staged a sit-in outside the school, while additional security forces and helicopters continued to operate in the region.

Tareen recounted that during the raid, security forces entered Sardar Naseer’s house with armored vehicles. He claimed that a major pushed Sardar Naseer, causing him to fall and sustain injuries. He also reported that Mir Zehri Khan was beaten, and Mir Khaleel Ahmed was shot and seriously injured.

The BNP condemned the raid and detentions as a “shameful act” by what it called the “puppet government,” asserting that such actions were aimed at silencing the party’s leadership and suppressing voices against the ongoing situation in Balochistan. The party emphasized that Sardar Naseer Ahmed Musiani was a recognized political figure who had participated in elections and represented his community through democratic means.

The BNP highlighted that targeting a respected leader like Sardar Naseer was not only an injustice to him but also raised serious concerns about the future of democratic politics in Balochistan. Under the leadership of Sardar Akhtar Jan Mengal, the party vowed to continue its struggle for political, democratic, and constitutional rights, opposing all forms of oppression.

Tareen stressed that the party’s primary responsibility was to defend the dignity, rights, and identity of the people of Balochistan. He added that the BNP would not abandon this responsibility under any circumstances. The party also pointed out that residents of Zehri had been under suffering and curfew for a year, with ordinary people being punished for acts they did not commit.

The BNP emphasized that a political solution—based on dialogue, justice, and rebuilding trust, was the only way forward for Balochistan. It condemned the use of force and urged for the immediate release of Sardar Naseer, his family members, and all those detained or protesting.

The party demanded that any legal charges against the detainees be presented in court according to the law and constitution, rather than holding people in a school. It also called for access for families and legal representatives, a transparent investigation into reports of helicopter shelling and firing in Bulbul Zehri, and the immediate evacuation of the school and hospital, which serve public needs.

Tareen appealed to the people of Balochistan, political parties, lawyers, journalists, and human rights organizations to raise their voices against these actions. The BNP warned that if the government continued using force and retaliatory measures against political leaders and workers, it would bear responsibility for any ensuing unrest or public backlash.

Finally, the BNP announced protests outside press clubs across Balochistan scheduled for Thursday, 4 June, and said it would convene a meeting to determine its next steps.
