Armed attack in Dasht burns machinery, blast damages bridge in Panjgur
Unknown armed assailants set fire to construction machinery in the Dasht area of Balochistan, according to officials. The incident involved attackers targeting a road roller working on the Shakro–Tolagi route. The assailants arrived on motorcycles, opened fire on the vehicle, and then proceeded to torch it, causing significant damage. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported during the attack, and the assailants managed to flee the scene.
In a separate incident, an explosion damaged a section of a bridge over the Rakhshan River on a China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) road in Panjgur district. Residents reported that the blast was powerful and heard from nearby areas, indicating the severity of the explosion. Pakistani security forces quickly cordoned off the affected site and launched a search operation to investigate the incident.
District officials stated that traffic on the affected road was temporarily halted but was later partially restored. A technical team was dispatched to assess the cause of the explosion and determine the extent of the damage inflicted on the bridge. The authorities are still investigating the nature of the blast and whether it was an act of sabotage.
At the time of reporting, no group had claimed responsibility for either the arson in Dasht or the explosion in Panjgur. Historically, construction projects and CPEC infrastructure in the region have been targeted by Baloch armed groups, who accuse these development efforts of exploitation and marginalization. The incidents highlight ongoing security challenges faced by infrastructure development in Balochistan.
