Public Protest Erupts in Quetta Over Life Sentences for Dr. Mahrang Baloch and Shah Jee Subghatullah
A public protest was held on Saryab Mill Colony Road in Quetta after life imprisonment sentences were reportedly handed down to Dr. Mahrang Baloch and Shah Jee Subghatullah. Protesters blocked the road for several hours, expressing anger over the court's decision.
According to a statement issued by the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), the demonstration took place without the involvement of any organized institution. The group said the protest reflected widespread public dissatisfaction and described the sentences as unjust and politically motivated.
The BYC stated that many people in Balochistan regard Dr. Mahrang Baloch and the organization as representatives of their political and human rights concerns. It argued that actions taken against its leadership have deepened public mistrust and widened the gap between the state and sections of the local population.
The statement further maintained that democratic political voices should be engaged through dialogue rather than suppression. It emphasized the importance of constitutional rights, transparent legal proceedings, and access to justice, saying that decisions perceived as unfair are likely to trigger public reaction.
The organization said the Baloch people would continue what it described as a peaceful struggle for political and democratic rights and would oppose actions it believes violate fundamental human rights. It also called for the immediate release of BYC leaders.
Authorities have not publicly responded to the BYC's statement at the time of publication.
