Fozia Baloch held a home press conference after being banned from the press club
Baloch activist Fozia Baloch has held an emotional press conference from inside her home using only her mobile phone after she says she was repeatedly denied access to the Karachi Press Club. In her statement, she alleged that her brother, Dad Shah Baloch, was forcibly disappeared by CTD officials and intelligence personnel 17 days ago. She further claimed that the state is using his detention as pressure to silence her political activism.
According to Fozia Baloch, her brother was taken away on April 21, 2026, during a late-night raid at their family home. She said a large group of approximately 20 to 25 armed men in plain clothes arrived in two police vehicles, along with a black Vigo and a white Alto car.
She stated that the personnel stormed the house, searched the premises and allegedly subjected family members to violence during the operation. The family says Dad Shah Baloch was then forcibly taken away without any legal documentation being presented.
Fozia Baloch said that when family members attempted to record the raid on their mobile phones, they were threatened by the personnel. According to her, officials warned that her elder brother would also be taken away if they continued filming the incident.
The family repeatedly demanded arrest warrants and legal justification for the detention, she said. However, the personnel allegedly refused to provide any documents and instead instructed the family to visit a police station for information. Even then, they did not specify which station they should approach.
Nearly two hours after the incident, the family went to the nearest police station in search of answers. There, they were allegedly told to return after 24 hours instead of being given immediate information about Dad Shah Baloch’s whereabouts.
Fozia Baloch said the family then attempted to book a press conference at the Karachi Press Club to publicly raise the issue. According to her, their request was not accepted.
The family later returned to the police station and met the SHO of Maripur Police Station, where they submitted a written application regarding the disappearance. However, she claimed that police officials refused to provide them with an official receipt acknowledging the complaint.
She said the family was later informed that an FIR would be registered against unknown persons. The family rejected this proposal, insisting they had directly witnessed their brother being taken away in the presence of police vehicles and personnel.
On April 25, four days after the disappearance, the family again attempted to hold a press conference at the Karachi Press Club. Fozia Baloch stated that when they arrived, police had already surrounded the area and informed them that no press conference would be allowed.
According to her account, the family chose not to resist and quietly turned back toward their home. However, she alleged that police still moved against them shortly afterward.
Fozia Baloch claimed that police used violence against family members, detained them and later registered what she described as a false FIR. She said her elderly mother, who suffers from high blood pressure, was also taken into custody during the incident.
The family remained detained for nearly 24 hours, she said. During this period, Fozia Baloch alleged that her mother was denied essential medication despite her serious health condition. “It was as if we were left there to die,” she said during the press conference.
Reflecting on her years of activism, Fozia Baloch said she had long stood beside Baloch mothers searching for their missing sons. She stated that witnessing their resilience had strengthened her own courage, especially now that her own family was facing the same situation. She added that the use of law as a tool of intimidation and blackmail represented the very form of oppression she had always spoken out against.
Speaking from her home, she described the fact that she was forced to hold a press conference remotely as evidence of what she called state repression. She appealed to the public to share her message widely and raise their voices against enforced disappearances. Fozia Baloch demanded the immediate and safe recovery of her brother, Dad Shah Baloch, and insisted that if any charges exist against him, he must be produced before a court of law in accordance with due legal process.
