BNP organizes demonstrations across Balochistan
The Balochistan National Party (BNP) organized protests in Quetta and various other regions of Balochistan on Thursday to voice their opposition against recent state actions. The protests were sparked by a raid on the home of party leader Sardar Naseer Ahmed Musiyani in Zehri, which was followed by the killing of his son Khaleel Musiyani and Umair Sumalani. Additionally, the BNP condemned the detention of Sardar Naseer’s other sons and relatives, viewing these acts as part of a broader pattern of repression.
The BNP issued a statement highlighting that demonstrations took place across Balochistan, condemning what they described as systemic killings, enforced disappearances, extrajudicial arrests, and violations of the sanctity of private homes. The protests aimed to draw international and national attention to these human rights violations and seek justice for the victims.
In Quetta, the protest was held outside the Quetta Press Club, where BNP leaders, workers, and supporters gathered in solidarity. The crowd chanted slogans calling for justice and an end to violence, emphasizing their demand for accountability and respect for human rights in the region.
During the demonstration, BNP leaders addressed the gathering, reaffirming the party’s identity as a national democratic organization committed to the rights of Baloch people. They emphasized that the BNP has consistently raised its voice against enforced disappearances, military operations, and human rights violations that have plagued Balochistan for years.
The speakers highlighted that Sardar Naseer Musiyani, a former district mayor of Khuzdar, has long been an advocate of democratic politics and has fought for the rights of his community. They expressed outrage over the raid on his home, which they said was conducted unlawfully, with state forces violating the sanctity of his residence, beating him, and killing his son Khaleel Musiyani.
Further, the BNP leaders condemned the killing of Khaleel Musiyani and Umair Sumalani, calling for a transparent investigation into the incidents. They demanded that those responsible for these killings be identified and brought to justice, emphasizing the need for accountability and transparency.
The leaders also addressed the ongoing issues of missing persons and extrajudicial actions in Balochistan. They criticized the current administration, accusing it of failing to address these problems and of increasing targeted killings and arrests of Baloch and Pashtun youths under what they called “Form 47-imposed rulers.”
They argued that the policies implemented by the establishment have worsened the situation in Balochistan. The BNP contended that the region has seen a rise in violence, oppression, and human rights abuses since the current government took power, with civilians bearing the brunt of state repression.
The BNP leaders called on the government to end its policies of repression immediately. They condemned the detention of women and children, and called for an immediate halt to extrajudicial arrests and killings, asserting that such practices violate basic human rights and dignity.
Finally, the leaders of the BNP accused Sardar Akhtar Jan Mengal and other party figures of being targeted in retaliatory actions by state forces. Despite this, they asserted that the party would not be silenced or subdued through pressure or violence. They called for an end to what they termed the “genocide of the Baloch people,” demanding the current rulers step down on moral grounds, citing their failures to address the crisis in Balochistan.
